The Lionfish in the Mediterranean III workshop kicked off today, on Monday 13th October 2025, at the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation Conference Hall in Monaco.
Experts from across the region came together to analyse the socio-ecological and economic impacts of the lionfish (Pterois miles) invasion in Mediterranean waters. The 3-day workshop, taking place 13–15 October 2025, explores how the rapid spread of Lionfish, an invasive threat to marine ecosystems, can also become a catalyst for sustainable opportunities spanning fisheries, gastronomy, regulatory cooperation, and economic development.
This gathering unites scientists, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and civil society leaders to design effective, collaborative responses to one of the Mediterranean’s most pressing ecological challenges.
This event is organised by Elafonisos Eco, in partnership with the CIESM – Mediterranean Science Commission, the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, and the University of Gastronomic Sciences – Pollenzo.
