On Wednesday 27th September Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, Founder of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, hosted his 11th annual fundraiser in aid of WWF and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. As well as hosting a dinner and a special charity auction, Sir Stelios generously matched all donations made on the night, which raised a spectacular grand total of 864,000 Euros. The exclusive event was held in the presence of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and Kirsten Schuijt, WWF International Director General,in aid of joint efforts to protect whales and dolphins in the Pelagos Sanctuary, a marine protected area in the Mediterranean Sea. Sir Stelios commented: “I am touched that so many friends responded to the call to save our seas! The Pelagos sanctuary is very close to our home and we have to preserve it. The sum raised is up 154 per cent on last year and brings the grand total raised for the cause by our joint efforts since 2013 to 2.5 million Euros. We are looking forward to breaking the record again next year as we are here to help for the long run.” Thank you to Sir Stelios and everyone who supported the event! |
