THE HELLENIC INITIATIVE’S THIRD ANNUAL CHARITY DINNER IN MONACO BENEFITS UNDERPRIVILEGED YOUTH IN GREECE

THI Board Member Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou Hosted Event Supporting THI’s Summer Youth Academy

Renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder and owner of easyGroup, and founder and President of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, hosted The Hellenic Initiative’s (THI) 3rd Annual Charity Fundraiser dinner in Monaco on June 25. Joined by THI’s Board Member Nikos Koumettis at the Stelios Foundation Conference Hall in Monaco, guests gathered to benefit THI’s Summer Youth Academy, the unique basketball camp that transforms young lives. All proceeds were matched by Sir Stelios and the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation bringing the total amount raised to €52,000!

Founded in 2012, THI is the only global non-profit organization that unites Greeks around the world around philanthropy through investing in the future of Greece. Since its founding, THI has raised more than $38 million and has grown to be the largest Greek Diaspora organization in the world.

Special guest speaker Thodoris Papaloukas, illustrious professional basketball player, spotlighted how sports contributes to the social integration and empowerment of young people growing up in difficult circumstances. Papaloukas, was named one of the 50 greatest EuroLeague contributors in 2008. A revolutionary figure in basketball, in 2013 he was honored with the highest European award in the sport, being named as a EuroLeague Legend for his career accomplishments.

Led by Eurohoops, supported by THI and spearheaded by THI Board member Nikos Stathopoulos, the Summer Youth Academy basketball camp transforms lives. For a second consecutive year, refreshed and enriched while also extending its reach to other Athens neighborhoods, the Camp takes place June 30 to July 25, 2025 at the Leonteios School in Patissia. The camp emphasizing basketball also features assorted games and workshops building skills, confidence and character. Participation is free and no basketball experience is required.

Our Foundation matched every donation, ensuring a total of €52,000 raised, creating a lasting and meaningful impact.”

Nikos Koumettis, THI’s Board Member, stated: “THI’s slogans ‘Dare to Dream’ and ‘Oli Mazi’ have attracted not only the interest and financial support of the most successful Hellenes an Philhellenes in the world – they have inspired them to ‘give back’ and help build a New Greece.
